Privacy policy

This policy explains what information is handled when you visit energystatus.app or email us, why it is needed and how to ask about it.

Who is responsible

EnergyStatus is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For privacy questions or requests, email hello@energystatus.app.

This policy covers energystatus.app and enquiries sent to us. Other websites linked from our pages have their own privacy policies.

Information we handle

When you visit, the services that deliver and protect the website process technical information. This can include your IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, browser and device information, and security or error details. This information comes from your browser and its connection to the website.

When you email us, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message and any attachments. Please send only the information needed for your enquiry. You do not need to send identity documents, payment details or sensitive personal information with an ordinary question.

You can browse without creating an account. Emailing us is optional, but we need a reply address and enough detail to answer your enquiry.

Why we use it

We use technical information to deliver pages, diagnose faults, prevent abuse and keep the service secure. We use correspondence to answer questions, investigate reported problems and handle privacy requests.

For running and protecting the website and responding to ordinary enquiries, our lawful basis under UK data-protection law is legitimate interests: providing a working, secure information service and replying to people who contact us. Where processing is necessary to meet a legal duty, such as handling a data-rights request, we rely on that legal obligation.

Cookies and browser storage

Cloudflare helps deliver and protect the website. Depending on the security checks needed, it may set cookies, for example to remember that your browser has passed a security challenge. Cloudflare explains these in its cookie information.

Your browser also caches website files so they can load again without being downloaded each time. Browser settings let you clear cookies, cached files and other site data. Clearing or blocking security cookies may mean checks are repeated or some requests are blocked.

Live dashboard appearance

When you change the Dark or Light choice in Live Settings, the dashboard saves dark or light under energystatus.theme.v1 in your browser's local storage (localStorage). It reads this preference on later visits in the same browser.

The dashboard uses this value only for appearance. It does not send the value to our servers or use it for analytics or advertising.

There is no set expiry. Changing the theme replaces the saved value. You can remove it by clearing site data for energystatus.app in your browser; your browser may also remove stored data. Without a saved choice, the dashboard uses Dark. If storage is blocked, a theme change applies to the current page but may reset when you leave.

Service providers and international processing

Our hosting and security providers, including Cloudflare, process technical information to deliver and protect the website. Our email provider processes messages sent to us. Information may also need to be shared where the law requires it or where necessary to deal with a legal claim.

Service providers may process information outside the UK. Where this is a restricted transfer, UK data-protection law requires an appropriate transfer arrangement. You can contact us for details of the providers, processing locations and safeguards that apply to your information.

How long information is kept

Correspondence is kept for as long as it is needed to answer the enquiry, deal with related follow-up questions or resolve a complaint. Relevant considerations include the nature of the issue, the last meaningful contact, whether it remains unresolved and any legal requirement to keep a record.

Technical records are retained according to their security or diagnostic purpose and the service provider's settings. An unresolved fault, abuse investigation or legal requirement may justify keeping relevant records longer. Contact us for the retention details that apply to a particular enquiry or record.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access your personal information, correct inaccurate information, have information erased or restrict how it is used. A right to receive information in a portable format applies only in certain circumstances.

Right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests because of your particular situation. Email hello@energystatus.app and explain your request. We may need enough information to confirm that a record relates to you.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data-protection regulator. You do not have to contact us first.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the way we handle information changes. The date above identifies the latest revision.
